Wan Sammy’s advice tae anither – lay tha rhymes alane

Brief response in the Ulster-Scots Standard Habbie verse form, to a poorly written doggerel by the Right Honourable Sammy Wilson, MP for East Antrim, attempting to lampoon the Health Minister as a spoil sport in the midst of a pandemic.

Hark tha mensefu Angels sing

Rabin sang shouldnae ding

far tha maist o boadies sing

an speel abeen

Sammy nonsense, sic a bing

saft heided wheen

Subsequent Habbie scrieved in tha spirit o anither Sammy – Sammy Thomson of Carngranny, for some tha faither o tha Ulster-Scots poetic tradition, an poetic correspondent for tha Northern Star newspaper, 1792 to 1797.

Sammy lay tha rhymes alane

dinnae tax yer gye squid brane

o rhymin skill ye hae nane

yoon, settle doon

lament tha couplets you hae slain

ye muckle loon
